Rules of the game
There are two players on each team.
The playing court’s measures are 16õ8 metres and is divided into two halves of equal sizes. The net is 2,43 m high for men and 2,24 m high for women. The playing court is confined within lines between 5 and 8 cm wide that are included in the measures of the court. The ball is in the court when it touches the lines. There are no strictly defined zones in the court but the zone surrounding the playing court is divided into a free zone and service zone.
Sand depth: 40 cm.
It is especially made for outdoor play. Its pressure is between 0,175 and 0,225 kg/sq.m.
The ball is served behind the end line and within the sidelines. Only one try to serve is allowed. The players on one team take turns serving.
The first set is played until a team scores 21 points.
The third set is played until a team socres 15 points but there is no point limit there.
Each team can touch the ball three times. A block is counted as a touch. The ball can be touched using any part of the body (except when serving). When a short ball is played, the defending team can delay its first defensive touch. Two players from different teams holding the ball over the net is allowed. An attack cannot be finished using an open hand or the fingertips (tip). If the ball is sent over the net when attacking, it should move perpendicularly to the sidelines. There are four 30-second time-outs per team allowed each game. No substitutions are allowed. The teams switch courts after each 7 cumulative points (e.g., 4:1, 6:4, etc.). There are no positional or rotational errors except regarding the serving order.
Players can go under the net if they don’t interfere with their opponents. They are not allowed to deliberately prevent their opponents from seeing the serve (Screening). In case of an injury, only one 5-minute (maximum) break is allowed. Any contact a player makes with the net is a violation, as well as a serve that touches the net.
They include: the first referee, the second referee (assistant), the scorers, two linejudges and ball retriever, levelling the sand. |
